A central, helmeted Minerva holds a crown above the richly dressed Hedvig Eleonora. Silvery drapery, a gilded Medusa shield, blue fabric and glowing clouds make a sumptuous colour plate. The portrait turns the goddess into an emblem of royal virtue shortly before the future Swedish queen’s marriage.
